What I’m reading
Unfortunately, I don’t have as much time to read these days as I used to. The days of reading 40-50 books per year are long gone. But I’m always reading something.
Current read: “Fugue of Fire,” by Wally Waltner. The first volume of Waltner’s Muse’s War was one of my favorite reads of 2025. I loved the art as magic idea behind it. Here’s hoping the second is just as entertaining.
Last read: “Magic and Bullets” by Larry Correia. I enjoyed the first book in this series, “Academy of Outcasts” last year. It was just a fun, fast-paced adventure story, and this was the same. Read my full thoughts on it over on Substack.
On the TBR: “A Sense of Murder,” by Sam Robb; “Declare” by Tim Powers; “Through a Spyglass Darkly” by G. Scott Huggins; “The Devils” by Joe Abercrombie; “Demon in White” by Christopher Ruocchio; “The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook,” by Matt Dinniman.
Current listening
Music is a major part of my writing process, as well as my life. I’ve often joked that I spend more time planning the soundtrack of my novels than what I’m actually going to write, but it’s not far from the truth. I’m an old metalhead who dabbles in other musical styles. Here I’ll share the current soundtrack for my life (and eventually, maybe some of my novels.) The button below will also take you to my infrequently updated music review site.
